By the end of a busy week running my recruitment business, wine felt like a reward.
But the consequences were creeping in - and they were getting harder to ignore.

You know the routine:
Sunday - foggy and flat
Monday and Tuesday - dragging through
Wednesday - almost yourself again
Thursday - already eyeing the bottle

Half the week spent drinking.
The other half recovering.
And somewhere in the middle, I felt myself disappearing.

From the outside, I was holding it all together.
But inside, I was tired, disconnected - and done negotiating with myself.

So in January 2024, I pressed pause.
Quietly. Intentionally. Without a big announcement.
I just wanted to know who I’d be without it.

It didn’t start with a crisis. It started with a quiet sense: this isn’t how I want to live.

When Alcohol Stopped Making Sense

What happened next surprised me

The fog started to lift.
I had more energy - not just physically, but mentally.
My nervous system softened.
The constant self-negotiation stopped.
I felt steadier. Sharper. More like myself than I had in years.

It wasn’t some sudden reinvention.
It was a slow, honest return.



I started waking up rested.
I began enjoying my full days - not just the parts leading to wine o’clock.  Slowly, I started recognising myself again.

What changed wasn’t who I was.
It was a steady return to the version of me I’d been holding at arm’s length.

By April, I knew I wasn’t going back.
Life had shifted. I had more space, more steadiness, and a deeper kind of peace that stuck around.

With that clarity, I trained professionally - earning a triple-accredited Diploma in Coaching & Positive Psychology, alongside a specialist qualification in Alcohol-Free Performance Coaching.

At 54, I feel more alive and more grounded than I ever did in my 30s.
Now I support women to experience that same shift - with honesty, depth, and a path that actually feels like theirs.
